Johanna Goodman
Online Artist Portfolio
2019
In 2019, I was commissioned by Johanna Goodman, a Seattle-based artist, psychoanalyst, and anthropologist, to design her online artist portfolio. The website served as a digital showcase for her artwork, artist statement, biography, and reflective writings, offering a window into her exploration of impermanence, identity, and liminality.
Johanna’s practice merges art and psychoanalysis as vehicles for self-inquiry. Much like a writer who writes to understand their own thoughts, her creative process delves into the unconscious through painting, drawing, and mixed media. The challenge was to translate this deeply introspective and evolving practice into a clear, elegant online presence that could speak to both artistic and psychoanalytic audiences.

Challenge
The goal was to create an online portfolio that reflected the psychological depth of her work while remaining intuitive, accessible, and visually cohesive. The website needed to balance intimacy and professionalism, allowing her to communicate her ideas and artworks with clarity and emotional resonance.
Solution
I designed a minimal, narrative-driven website structured around Johanna’s voice and visual storytelling. The design highlighted her artistic statement and process while integrating clean navigation and full-screen image displays to immerse visitors in her body of work. The interface allowed seamless updates for new projects, exhibitions, and writings, ensuring long-term usability.
