Like Any Other Kid

VMS Productions

Since 2017

Since 2017, I have collaborated with New York–based psychoanalyst and filmmaker Victoria Mills, developing the promotional and educational materials for her award-winning documentary Like Any Other Kid.

Like Any Other Kid offers a rare look inside innovative, non-punitive approaches to juvenile justice reform in the United States. The documentary follows incarcerated youth and staff in three therapeutic facilities over three years, revealing how structure and compassion can foster responsibility and transformation.

My work with VMS Productions focused on translating the film’s humanistic and socially engaged spirit into a cohesive suite of visual and educational materials—designed for festivals, academic screenings, and outreach campaigns. The film has been featured in international film festivals and recognized for its contribution to social justice and education.

Challenge

The project required materials that would communicate both the emotional depth of the film and its educational purpose. The visuals needed to resonate with diverse audiences—from film festival attendees to educators and juvenile justice professionals—while maintaining design coherence across formats.

Solution

I designed a series of printed and digital materials balancing visual storytelling and pedagogical clarity.

  • Film Postcards: Compact, multi-functional tools including synopsis, laurels, QR codes, and contact details—ideal for distribution at festivals and events.

  • Poster and DVD Box: Emphasized the film’s narrative of empathy and transformation through minimalist, emotionally charged imagery.

  • Study Guide: Structured around 31 training videos, the guide supports educators and facilitators in using the film as a discussion and training tool.
